My Ecuadorian bi-lingual friend Yolanda comes from Quito once a week to spend time in the kitchen to help the cook with more nutritional meals for the children. Her visit this week included the photos for the lunchroom project. Happy children in their almost completed lunchroom and enjoying a nutritious meal. Also the photos show the concrete work being done on the front area of the school to eliminate the mud during the rains.
There are two volunteer English teachers working with the children one time a week to learn simple English words. Terri and Lucinda are doing a great job with the children.
These young children under the age of 5 are very eager to learn. We are planning to find a volunteer help the teachers with English.
Our next project is to finish the lower level of the school – that is very dark, damp and depressing. Children need new playground equipment.
We plan to provide a Doctor to give the children a physical. According to government standards many of the children are underweight and too short for their ages. Not sure we can get a free service with a Doctor – possibly some of your donations will go for medical.
A meeting is planned with the community on June 6 to discuss the progress that has been made, how the indigenous community members can help and to understand their specific needs for the children and the school.
Without your donations, physical help and continuing interest this humanitarian work would not continue to progress. We all say thank you from our hearts. Please remember that a small donation will be doubled by our benefactor until the end of May. A small amount of $10 becomes $20 – and increases our ability to complete this school.
