Minga: Place of Hope

Food Kitchen Update

Name Change: ‘Place of Hope’ – previously Hatu Mikui

Yes, we are the same food kitchen, dedicated to serving the poor elderly. We will be moving to a new location on June 29.

On Saturday, June 18 we had a Minga.  Indigenous people came from their villages to work on the property of our new location.  Thirty-five people arrived around 7 am and started working.   As you can see from the photos, the women worked right along side with the men.

The back area of the property was cleared and the debris burned.  The improved shower and bathroom areas were cleaned.  We have hot water for showers and an outside sink with running water for washing hands.  The kitchen has electricity as well as propane for preparing a meal.

A group of volunteers who serve breakfast 5 days a week arrived with food for lunch.

It was a joyous occasion…

All the work will be finished this week. The finishing touch will be the painting of the new kitchen, making it both bright and cheery.  Our used kitchen equipment is being transferred to this new location and the final moving day is June 29.   If all goes well we hope to serve breakfast on the30th.  (In Ecuador, plans do not always work out –LOL)

This new location has space so the elderly people can stay after breakfast and work on crafts.   Some gardening and growing of our own food is also possible at this new location.  We welcome volunteer Doctors to check the people monthly and help with any medical problems.

So far, we have been able to handle our expenses and we have no debt. Our food bill is the main continued expense and will increase monthly as we grow to serve more poor people.  This ‘miracle’ would not have happened without the continued support that we receive.

As I have mentioned in the past, all donations go directly where needed and there are no administrative fees.

If you wish to serve as a volunteer please send an email to mickyenright@gmail.com

We look forward to your continued support in order to expand our program in serving the elderly poor.

As Always,
