Hatu Mikui Soup Kitchen For the Poor Elderly

Update for January 2015

Great News!

We will be starting an additional kitchen this month in the area shown above.

Plans will be submitted to the Municipality for approval and permits.  A group from Quito are donating a stove, refrigerator and kitchen pots and pans.  What a Blessing.

We require donations of approximately $3,500 to complete the kitchen, outside and inside.  Waterlines and electricity are part of the package, as well as security precautions, sink, storage area and cabinets.  The Indigenous construction people from one of the villages will provide the roof on the kitchen.

We are presently feeding 35 to 55 elderly people breakfast 5 days a week.  The kitchen will give our volunteers close proximity to the carport area where the meals are served.  Right now they have to run up and down stairs from the existing kitchen carrying trays of food for the people.

Our wonderful volunteers start at 7:30 am and finish around 9:30 after clean up.  The existing kitchen is quite small and the Indigenous volunteers start to prepare lunch at 9:30 am for paying customers in their dining room.  Their paying customers provide the income for their building.

This Unorcac building represents 45 Indigenous villages and all the workers are Indigenous.  The new kitchen will also be available for their use when needed.  It has been great working with the Indigenous people, local Ecuadorians and expats.

Presently our food bill is $100 plus per week to serve breakfast.  We need donations to complete the kitchen and funds to keep feeding the people as the numbers increase.

I wish to say ‘thank you’ to the many people that have provided funds over the years for the projects that Ecuador Project Hope has completed.  No amount is too small.  This is a new venture in serving the elderly poor.

We are hoping to provide showers for these people and a change of clothing in the future.  A hot shower is a luxury which we take for granted.  I will keep you informed when we are ready to progress to this point.

Wishing you many Blessings
