March 2016: A permanent building has been located to better serve our poor elderly and less fortunate folks.
The vacant building is owned by the Municipality and we are working out the details to obtain. This building is in very good condition and partially furnished with electric, city water and septic included.
The building is located close to downtown Cotacachi in an area of several gated single family home communities. The building has two bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with showers, kitchen with stove , refrigerator and dining room table.
There is a living room large enough to have a small office. The land is a large property with huge potential and currently is home to a goat and a few chickens.
It would be nice to have a garden and grow our own food. Some of our elderly would enjoy gardening and are experienced. There is a large outdoor oven for baking and a typical laundry tub used by the Indigenous.
Funds are required to add a room or enclosed carport to serve breakfast to 50 or more people. We have banquet tables and can serve up to 70 people at our present location. The wonderful Pastor who has been extremely generous to us for over a year will be transferred in June. It has been a wonderful journey but does not meet all our requirements.
We need a room where someone can stay if in a bad situation of abuse, etc. There is an existing room for local Doctors to volunteer. While I was in the States I did bring some prescription meds, vitamins and a small machine for analyzing blood.
Now we need to equip the room for a doctor’s examinations and follow-up service. We have more than one doctor who plan to volunteer part time in caring for these people.
Some of the women would like to do some crafts, crochet, knitting and jewelry that could be sold for their benefit. This building would give them the opportunity to stay after breakfast and do their craft.
We are discussing having someone live on site and pay a small income to oversee the daily operation. We will have a volunteer to keep a spreadsheet of income and expenses. Of course, volunteers will assist in serving meals and helping with showers.
A Board of Directors is being formed now that our service to the forgotten old folks is expanding and we will be in a position to have a facility to meet our needs.
We look forward to your support in this new venture to better serve our elderly and anyone in dire need.
Your donations may be used for particular items of your choice. Please advise if you have special requests.
Many thanks for your continued support… we appreciate you!
As always,
