El Pan del Cielo was a Huge Success

Ecuador Project Hope Soup Kitchen

Our first annual fundraiser, El Pan del Cielo (Bread of Life), on October 5, 2013 was a huge success!

Over 200 people attended and were served a great BBQ lunch at $5.00 per person.

The silent auction, with many great prizes, brought in over $1,200. Raffle tickets sold rapidly for smaller prizes.

Everyone enjoyed a variety of activities:

  • Music and dancing in the afternoon – everyone enjoyed our young guitar player and singer
  • A dessert table with an assortment of cookies, carrot cakes and apple pies
  • Outside activities including horseback riding were a great success.
  • An open bar serving wine and beer on tap was popular

Our amazing volunteers did a fabulous job of organizing and working until the end of the day, and I thank them all.   Many compliments were received, and everyone is looking forward to a second event next year.

Along with the fun there is a serious part:

We are already adding on to the soup kitchen, as 25 people are being served breakfast and lunch 7 days a week, and the number of people needing this service is increasing.  They are all extremely poor elderly people, some even living on the street.

The net profit of approximately $3,000 will go a long way in keeping the soup kitchen operating. The cost to feed 25 people per week is $300 or $12 a person per 14 meals. We need to keep the food pantry filled to meet this need.

Part two of this project is to build a shelter attached to the soup kitchen.  The land has been donated, and we are working on an estimate to build a shelter to sleep 10 people.

Many of you have helped in the past to complete two indigenous pre-schools and made a difference in the lives of these little tykes.

Now our project is helping the other end of the community spectrum… the older folks.

Remember, if you want to be involved there are many avenues to pursue.  I know you will continue to support in any way that is comfortable for you.

Donations can be made through the Ecuador Project Hope PayPal account – no amount is too small.

Thank you for all the help that has been extended in the past to complete Ecuador Project Hope’s goals.

Your kindness is appreciated by everyone involved in our project.
