At Friday’s breakfast we served 78 meals. Our number of attendees always increases this time of year but we are expecting even higher numbers than usual. Some of you already know about Ecuador’s power issues and severe lack of rain. For the past several months all of Ecuador has been experiencing rolling black outs, in some areas they have been up to 14hrs per day. This has effected so many people on many levels, especially our indigenous elders. Having this breakfast program here in Cotacachi is even more helpful at this time.
Yesterday we received a donation from a special Vietnamese food dinner & wine pairing that Fonda Deli Market had a little while back (we heard the food and wine was amazing). The chef’s wanted to donate a percentage of the profits to our foundation. A truly heartfelt thank you and virtual hug from all of us for your generosity.
This week a beautiful addition has been being created for our elders. Susan Murray has sponsored a mural by Venezuelan artist Oscar Meir. We met with them last week to discuss location and ideas. The location over the outdoor sink is an area that the elders use everyday, so our elders will have something beautiful and wonderful to look upon. We will be posting a video of the creative process of this mural, please stay tuned for that in the near future.
Another wonderful donation of women’s shoes was made by Carlos & Sabrina Muriel. Carlos is a local taxi driver here in Cotacachi. It is so kind that people of our community continue to help us. We are all truly thankful for the helpful donation from them.
